Launching Workshop on "Climate Change in the ASEAN Coast: Impact, Vulnerability and Adaptation"

​On the 19th of September, VEA organized a workshop on "Climate Change in ASEAN Coast: Impact, vulnerability and adaptation".
At the workshop, Deputy Director-General Hoang Van Thuc said that Southeast Asia is facing the threat of climate change, the increase in frequency and intensity of floods. drought, salinity intrusion and extreme weather events have caused many human losses, damaging economic and natural resources.

To identify appropriate measures for adaptation and adaptation to climate change in coastal areas, the vulnerability of coastal areas, including human and financial life, should be assessed. Coastal resources due to climate change and sea level rise. This will help coastal managers in ASEAN countries such as Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam develop appropriate policies and actions to reduce the risks associated with climate change and sea level rise in coastal areas, particularly through their incorporation in the policy and actions of integrated coastal management, are currently being implemented in the region.

To assess the impact of sea level rise and to review coastal vulnerabilities due to climate change and sea level rise in the ASEAN region, and to recommend a policy / action framework. Initially, the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICM) aims to reduce the impacts of climate change and sea level rise. It is expected that the project will be implemented in 2017.
 
Launching Workshop is a forum for countries to provide, share and exchange information on integrated coastal management policies in each member country; Review of coastal vulnerability caused by climate change and sea level rise; Relevant plans and policies of ASEAN member countries.
